Les Petites Fleurs is built layer by layer with encaustic wax, alcohol ink, dried petals, shellac with dried pigment, and copper flakes on handmade paper over canvas. The rich colors of the floral shapes swirl with soft blues and whites, creating a textured, organic flow that feels both delicate and alive. I wanted to capture movement and depth through the mix of materials.
This artwork is created using a personal collection of dried petals, preserved over time and embedded into the wax layers to create subtle, organic shapes that feel at once delicate and alive. The use of shellac mixed with powdered pigment and pure beeswax adds depth and a tactile richness, while copper flakes catch light, introducing moments of shimmer that balance the piece’s intensity. Transparent alcohol inks and torching the shellac introduced shifts in color, emphasizing light and texture. This was a very interesting and fun painting to create.
